About The Be Book Club
Hello!
The announcements for this week pertain to the 5 W's and the 1 H as mentioned on the home page. I am still working some of the details of this book club out, but don't let my lack of specifics fool you... I am very much looking forward to reading and discussion various books and philosophy with anyone who is interested. Let's talk non-specific specifics:
Who
This book club was dreamed up by four lovely ladies who work in very close quarters at a private school. The three other gals do not know that I have made this site, but I am excited to show it to them and I hope their enthusiasm is as resounding as mine... TBD.
Ideally, this would be a non-commitment book club with 5-15 members. Maybe we all know each other, maybe we don't. But one thing for sure... all of the members are willing to read the same book and participate (by listening or speaking) in a discussion.
What
This is a book club. Let's not be too redundant here.
What is more important is what type of books we are going to read. You can visit our discussion post here to voice your opinion! In my mind, not that this should influence you at all, I figured we would read both fiction and non-fiction, and read a little bit of different types of genres. I like most books, and we would try to pick books that are a good reading level and content level for everyone!
When
I imagine that we would read one book per month, but we can extend this if the book is particularly long. It would be great to have a weekly post online with general questions that people can respond to, but that might just develop over time. After the end of the month (or allotted time), we would get together electronically or in person and fill out a survey about our rating of the book (on various aspects of writing style, interest, flow, etc.) and come up with a collective rating to post on our Book List. We would pick a day that is convenient for as many people as possible.
Where
This, I believe, depends largely on the "Who" that joins. I think it would be great to meet once per month at the end of the book to discuss the book and see each other. We could take turns at each others' houses (if possible, and if we all are comfortable with that) or we could meet in a public place like a coffee shop (I've always wanted to do that! Those book club ladies in coffee shops look so sophisticated!). Or, if all else fails, we could do a Google Meet-Up or Skype or something like that. I'm game for anything. Attendance would not be mandatory, of course!
Why
Book clubs are cool! And classy. And they make you look intelligent. And it really doesn't hurt to read one non-work or school-related book per month, right?
How
We can take turns moderating this discussion and leading the group if we want!
We can post related content to the book (for example, if the book is related to India, we could post recipes for curries, beautiful photos of India and Indian culture, Indian cultural events around town, and more!) to expand our knowledge and appreciation of topics we are reading.
We can make this book club as awesome as we want it to be!
I am so inspired! Let's go!
