Our July book has been selected, thanks to our member LO!  Fortunately for LO, many of us are excited to read the book.  It's been sitting on my bookshelf for many months.  I also know BRK has picked up his copy, so if you haven't picked yours up yet, now is the time to do it!

Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the culinary underbelly is an autobiographical book with crazy tales from the incredible life of famous chef and explorer Anthony Bourdain.  He is widely recognized in the culinary industry with his hands in haute cuisine, authoring books, and travel/traveling shows on tv.  He is well known for his use of profanity and disdain for commercialized cooking, so readers beware!

There was no book club meeting for the last book, although I am still up for discussing it if anybody wants to do that with me!  This month, you can look forward to the following items:

1. More polls and discussion questions - these are NEVER mandatory!
2. Fun facts about Anthony Bourdain - start your own exploration by viewing his TV shows here!
3. Quotes from Anthony Bourdain
4. Culinary lifestyle tidbits, courtesy of my friends in the culinary world
5. More...?? (Suggestions are always welcome!)

I have been a big fan of Anthony Bourdain for many years.  I hope you all enjoy this book!

So the book club has hit a bit of a snag... I was without internet for a few weeks and without power for four days so I was unable to post to this blog.  However, I hope you kept reading the book!  I finished it yesterday... quite an interesting end!

I hope to inspire you to answer three questions:
1. Could you imagine this book being written entirely about the past (i.e., about the Fang performances and Child A and B?) or entirely about the present (with little to no mention of specific Fang performances?)

2. Have you ever witnessed an event that you would consider to be a Fang performance?

3. Do you have a favorite quote from the book?  (There were many good ones!!)

Lastly, a poll to determine how much you enjoyed this book!  Feel free to add any comments (positive or negative) about the book!

Be sure to check out our new "subscribe by email" form!  That way you can keep up with any announcements and blog updates easily!  You can unsubscribe at any time.  Think of it as a weekly reminder to read! :)

You will only get an email when something new is posted, which will be once or twice a week.  Hooray!  And happy reading!

Hi all!
I hope you had a great first week of June!  The weather here has been... unexpected.  We are all a little restless.  But, as it is raining outside, maybe everyone has taken the time to start reading our June book!

Take the time to post any initial thoughts you have on the book!
Did you enjoy it?  Do you dislike it?
Did you laugh/cry/wonder/roll your eyes?
How does the cover make you feel?

Some topics to think about and/or discuss!
How does the cover portray the quirkiness of this family?
Who is more relatable, Annie or Buster (or are they completely unrelatable to you?)
Did you read the quotes at the beginning of the book?  If so, how do these quotes prepare you for this book?  What did you expect would follow?  Did the first chapter meet your expectations?

You can post your favorite quote so far, too!  So many things to write about!  So much excitement!

On pace to finish at the end of June: 84 pages completed
Vote so we know how much to divulge!

Much love,
BeBC

Hi all!

The June book has been announced!  We will be reading The Family Fang by Kevin Wilson.  This book is quirky, humorous, contemporary fiction related to family dynamics and passion for art.  You can visit our Book List to find the book at your local library or purchase the book.  Since this is our first book in the book club, things may be shaky and uncertain - don't panic!  Check back here or give JD a call if you feel lost!

Note: All announcements will be posted in this color to be distinguished from the discussion posts.

Things to do in the month of June:
1. Read The Family Fang!
2. Visit the Discussions Page every week to take a poll and post your thoughts of the book so far!
3. Keep an eye out on this site, Facebook, or email for the Book Club meeting date!
4. Vote here if you want input on what we read!

Love,
The Be Book Club

Hooray, first post!

I figured that I would direct my friends and others to this website and that they would vote and we would decide on a direction to go from there!

So, if you are reading this and wish to be a part of the book club, fill out the form and let's get started!

    What should we read?
